Taubman Art Museum

Randall Stout Architects

Paying tribute to the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains, the Taubman Art Museum creates an iconic presence in downtown Roanoke, VA, while adjusting in scale and voice to its varied urban context of historic district, railway, and interstate roadway. A path of light links the second level galleries to the drammatic atrium, which serves as the hub of the institution's public events and social interaction. From this hub on the main level, visitors have access to education rooms, a library, auditorium, black box theater, cafe, and gift shop. The third level is dedicated to staff office space.

Cynthia Bell had a role in building organization and design concept, interior concepts and details, and created a full scope custom casework and furniture package for the building.
